Bury Your Anxiety- Birth Your Peace
Do You Wake Up Feeling Anxious, Lethargic, or Unmotivated?
Have you ever woken up with anxiety? I sure have and I just accepted it. I accepted it until I told someone that I often wake feeling un easy and anxious, they said “HUH? And you are ok with that??” My response, “No, I am not ok with it but thats how it is.”
For some unknown reason I would wake in the morning and immediately have a hundred thoughts about what was wrong in my life. I would try using different strategies to combat my anxious mind, but none of them worked.
Waking up with anxiety sets up your day to be filled with a nervous and unfocused mind. It can affect your productivity at work. For example, I was in sales and I found myself being on edge with my customers… I just did not have patience or compassion. It can add a reactive edge to all of your communications.
The bottom line is that when you wake feeling rested, clear and excited for your day, when you wake free from anxiety, you approach your day in a creative mindset. An peaceful mind is an expansive mind. And an expansive mind is full of creativity and potentiality.
So, understanding the benefits of waking up in a peaceful state is one thing… actually achieving it is another. Here are 3 tips to help you begin to shift out of morning anxiety.
- Make the commitment to sit quietly:
I know we are so busy we don’t have time to even breathe. But if you take five minutes in the morning to focus on sitting quietly and consciously breathing it can greatly help reduce anxiety.
-Gratitude journal for five minutes:
This is one of the most powerful tools I know to combat fear and anxiety. Take these few minutes to write what you’re grateful for. Focus on what you have rather than what you do not have.
- Set yourself up for success:
A simple tool to get into the habit of a morning ritual is to schedule it. Schedule it on your google calendar or your iPad. Make it as important as watching re-runs of your favorite tv show and you just might find that your own anxiety show is cancelled.
